"Water
("7 x 95")" 9.5"h x 15.5" x 16.5"
Porcelain 2006
Collection of Carnegie Museum of Art, Pittsburgh
The
subtitle of this piece refers to the dimensions of the painting which,
if laid out flat, is 7" high by 95" wide!
Or the dimensions of the painting is also 14"h x 47.5" w
(the circumference being 47.5").
Or, it could be a painting 36"h x 36" w. But none of these
'flat' shapes/alternatives would be
satisfactory and appropriate because this painting is suited to and
derives from the form of
the bowl. Therein lies the wonder and the joy of painting three-dimensionally.
Question: Have you ever seen a form where painting can be viewed 360
degrees
inside and outside simultaneously? Just wondering...
